When I came to Los Angeles from New York City in the late 1960s, there was
a huge, pink neon elephant jumping up and down on a mattress on the roof of
a furniture store on Lincoln Blvd. in Santa Monica.
I ate at a steak house in North Hollywood which had a red neon bull snorting
clouds of white smoke, pawing the ground and flicking its expressive tail.
Animating light bulbs simulate water coming out of this elephant's trunk for
a car wash in Palm Springs.
